About Indie Week

A Message from INDIE WEEK founder Darryl Hurs.

Indie Week was started as a response to giving Indie artists a chance to participate, be seen and be discovered, it's as simple as that. Additionally chances to meet and learn from industry professionals are also abundant. I have seen so many great bands that deserve attention and success; INDIE WEEK is just one more opportunity for bands to get a leg up.

Since Indie Week started, we have seen many 'Battle of the Bands' and Music festivals appearing on the scene, some good & some not so good. Regardless I would like to think that the initial intent is for the good of the performers. Indie Week strives to be different in caring for the artist and making them the stars of the show!!! We put festival and battle of the bands together. I believe great artists should be rewarded.

Indie Week started in 2004...wow we are FIVE YEARS later! Running the festival is a passion of mine and I have seen it grow and gain interest each and every year. I have also seen many contacts being made be it bands meeting booking agents, lawyers, managers, producers or people behind the scenes (namely our volunteers) ending up with jobs in the industry.

The festival is pretty much a labour of love with most of proceeds going back into running it. We also are very fortunate to have the support of our sponsors (new and old) who have made it all possible. Every year is exciting as the festival, seeing some of the same faces year after year is welcoming while making new friends. Over the years we have had bands from Ireland, Boston, New York, Seattle, Calgary, California, Cleveland, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, and all parts of Ontario. I have been fortunate to have personally met most if not all of them.

There have been so many great stories to come out of INDIE WEEK and I look forward to new ones to come.

Year 2008 is shaping up to be the biggest and best Indie Week yet! If you are an artist - apply!!! This is a festival you want to be a part of. It may be one of the best things you could do for your career - especially if you are looking to get some exposure. I have worked on making this the festival I wished for when I was performing.

To the returning artist I look forward to seeing you again, to new INDIE WEEK acts, I am excited to hear your music and watch you perform.
