A Primitive Evolution

(Photo Credit: Dash Revery | dashrevery.com) Everything about A Primitive Evolution boils down to instinct. Formed in the fall of 2007 out of the ashes of Toronto band Lye, vocalist Brett Carruthers and bassist Steph Seki began jamming with Playdead Cult owner and drummer Stu Dead. They have spent the last 3 years working on building their sound, image, fan base as well as producing their own music videos for the debut album "A.P.E." released worldwide on iTunes and via their website in early 2010. Recently they have added a new guitarist, Scott Carruthers who helped them to win the first round of the Hard Rock Cafe Battle of the Bands in February 2011 proving himself to be the perfect addition to the group. The album was produced by Carruthers and Matthew Von Wagner, who has produced U.S.S. and Alpha Galates as well as worked alongside Joe Barresi and Bob Ludwig, A.P.E. is grounded on a few common themes. “Death on Wheels” draws inspiration from classic grindhouse horror films, while others like “Dead End” are thinly veiled love songs. “War B.” explores political undertones and the Western view of war. “Beyond True” and “Still Waiting” draw influences of Radiohead and U2 with an amped up feel uniting the main themes of the album and capturing the romanticism of human interaction. Prepare yourself for a band that is as primal as they are passionate, as convicting as they are creative, and as solid as they are sinister. As CHARTattack stated, "If you're not from Toronto or you don't know what I'm talking about, I feel sorry for you, because A Primitive Evolution are a rock 'n' roll wet dream and they're sexy as f#&k." http://aprimitiveevolution.com

The North

Formed in 2007, THE NORTH have spent the time since trying to remind audiences  just what a rock'n'roll show is all about: Lots of energy, volume, booze and giving people something to talk about. Combining country, rockabilly, blues and a shit-load of Canadian influences into their sound, THE NORTH is fronted by one of the best, little known singers in the GTA. Not only is Bernadette brash, vocally gifted and gorgeous, but she also has blessed bloodlines, being the daughter of Status Quo's Francis Rossi. http://www.wearethenorth.com

L.Stadt

L.Stadt is one of the most interesting European rock groups around today. The members of the band met in Strasbourg in 2003. Raised under the influence of rock music, these young men decided that you “can’t be a prophet in your own back yard”, so L.Stadt is going out playing worldwide. The works of L.Stadt were hungrily eaten up by music fans and critics, and the young men were compared to The White Stripes, The Strokes, Blur, and other bands which have a reserved spot in the rock Olympics. L.Stadt harmoniously fuses modern rock with old school. Their songs feature powerful electric guitar, the energetically pulsating rhythms of two drummers, and the vocals of Luki, which seem to float straight out of scratched vinyl records. L.Stadt have played already over 200 club and outdoor shows in USA, Canada, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, France, England, Croatia and Serbia. Last year at INDIE WEEK Canada they got to the finals (top 10). They released two album first self tilted in 2008 and by the end of the 2010 new album EL.P mixed and mastered by MIkael Count (Dj Shadow, Living Color, No Doubt) http://lstadt.com/

The Little Black Dress

As a cultural icon, The Little Black Dress represents unmatched versatility, wide-ranging accessibility, and timeless style. As a band, The Little Black Dress is all of that and more. This high-energy Toronto-based foursome combines years of dedicated musical experience to create a melting pot of borderless, genre-crossing tunes. The band is continually pushing musical boundaries, with hook-laden party-tunes (This Town, Call The Paparazzi), dance-floor anthems (Four On The Floor), and straight-up rock'n'roll (Rough Sex and Cigarettes, Sucker For a Redhead). This is a band with a pop-sensibility that has secured their spot in the mainstream, while their intricacies and musicianship invite even the most discerning critics. The Little Black Dress can truly be described as having mass-appeal. The band is currently recording several new singles, working towards a full-length LP, splitting their time between Q Music in Toronto, and A Stare Away Studio in Newmarket, Ontario. As well, the band is very diligent in its work ethic, and continue to evolve their writing, performance, and recording techniques. Their immediately solid fan-base continues to expand on a daily basis. http://www.youtube.com/thelbdmusic#p/u/1/hDv6QliWOxs http://www.thelittleblackdressmusic.com

Darlings of Chelsea - INDIE WEEK CANADA 2009 Winners

Tues. Apr. 13 - Auntie Annie’s (Belfast) - midnight Thurs. Apr. 15 - Cellar Bar (Galway) - 10:30pm Fri. Apr. 16 - The Twisted Pepper (Dublin) - 11:50pm Sat. Apr. 17 - Baker’s Place (Limerick) - 10:30pm Like an alliance of organized crime families, the union known as Darlings of Chelsea is the amalgamation and commingling of Canada's seediest, most guttural rock/punk masterminds. Culled from legendary mainstays including The Black Halos, Kill Cheerleader, Parkas, Robin Black and the IRS, Scratching Post, CJ Sleez, and more, Darlings of Chelsea may only be six months old but the well - or rather, cesspool - of talent and experience runs extraordinarily deep. With their sights keenly set on obliterating the current onslaught of saccharine pop/rock, their skills honed to razor-sharp perfection and enthusiasm stoked to hyperactivity on their new EP "The Mimico Sessions", Darlings of Chelsea are primed for action. The question is... are you?

Static in the Stars

Static In the Stars Jordan Carriere - vocals JMZ Goodon - guitar Cam Thomas - guitar & vocals Jeff Pedora - bass & vocals Jason Ritchie - drums Static in the Stars is a five-piece rock and roll band based out of Calgary, AB.  Combining 80's cock rock with modern influences like Anberlin and the Foo Fighters they have created a new brand of straight ahead rock and roll that sets no boundaries and takes no prisoners.  The band has one goal and that is to deliver rock and roll back to the masses. In the past year Static in the Stars have drastically increased their profile.  They shared the stage with acts such as Pearl Jam, Wintersleep, K-OS and Billy Talent at Virgin Festival Alberta 2009.  They are set to showcase at Indie Music Week 2009 in Toronto, completed a cross Canada tour, showcased at Junofest 2008, opened for Twisted Sister during the Calgary Stampede, won the semi-finals of the Fuel 90.3 Big Rock Star Competition and the Ceilis Canada Day Rock Fest, received radio play on X92.9, 100.3 The Bear, and Fuel 90.3, licensed their song "Lost Vegas" for the film "The Service" and caught the attention of Tommy Mac from Hedley. Their new album "No Grace in Goodbyes" was produced by Tommy Mac from multi-platinum recording artists Hedley, engineered by Juno nominated Dean Maher (Elton John, AC/DC, Slayer, Rise Against, Chevelle, Atreyu) and mastered by Chris Potter (Sarah MacLachlan, Run DMC, The Cranberries, Rufus Wainright, Delirium).  Set for a September 2009 release it will showcase Static in the Stars unique brand of rock and roll. Cumulatively, the members of Static in the Stars have well over 30 years of experience in the music industry, so upon formation in November of 2006 they set out to make music with no limits, preconceptions nor boundaries of any scene.  They feel as at home with intimate acoustic sessions as they do with full on bombastic rock and roll.  Recently the band underwent a line up change as guitarist Joe McLeod and Harvey J. Warren were replaced with Cam Thomas on guitar and Jason Ritchie on drums.  The addition of the two new members and the fact that Harvey and Joe are still involved with the band only serves to enhance the strength of the band. With the release of their new album and subsequent touring and promotional plans Static in the Stars are poised to continue their momentum and deliver their rock and roll to even more fans.
